Are you a Mom with ADHD?
FAQs
What is ADHD?
ADHD is a difference in how the brain manages attention, energy, and emotions. If you have ADHD, you may find it harder to stay focused, get started on projects, and follow through - ESPECIALLY with things that feel either boring or overwhelming.
This is NOT about laziness or a lack of willpower! You simply have a brain wired for interest, urgency, and novelty.
In an ADHD brain, the regulation of dopamine and norepinephrine works differently, affecting the networks that manage focus, organization, time awareness, and emotional control.
What is ADHD Life Coaching?
ADHD Life Coaching is a collaborative, strength-based approach that supports women with ADHD in developing practical strategies to tackle areas of struggle, including time management, emotional regulation, organization, and staying focused.
ADHD Life Coaches understand that ADHD clients may not have the typical planning skills, follow-through, focus, and energy as neurotypical clients. ADHD Life Coaching is individualized to the unique brain wiring of people with ADHD, blending accountability with ADHD-friendly tools. It also takes into account different levels of energy and motivation, and places importance on self-compassion, while helping the client build systems that fit how their own mind actually works best.
How does ADHD affect moms?
Motherhood with ADHD can be incredibly rewarding but also uniquely challenging. The constant demands of raising children - including juggling schedules, managing household chores & responsibilities, remembering endless details, and responding to children’s emotional needs (including children with ADHD!) can feel overwhelming, especially when combined with an ADHD mom’s traits like distractibility, time blindness, and struggles with executive function.
Many Moms with ADHD describe living in a mental state that feels like ‘tabs that are always open’ where interruptions can derail tasks and small daily responsibilities pile up into big stress. Emotional sensitivity coupled with difficulty regulating frustration can add to feelings of self-criticism and guilt, especially when comparing themselves to their other moms.
Yet, ADHD can also bring empathy, creativity, and spontaneity to parenting - qualities which help ADHD moms to connect with their children in deeply meaningful and unconventional ways.
Why are so many midlife women getting diagnosed with ADHD?
In women, especially during midlife when hormones shift, ADHD symptoms can intensify. This may make it harder for women to juggle responsibilities, remember details, or keep their energy steady. A woman may have been coping well for decades without suspecting she has ADHD and suddenly feel like she’s fallen off a cliff!
How can ADHD life coaching help me?
ADHD Life Coaching can help you turn overwhelm into clarity by providing personalized strategies, structure, and compassionate accountability that work with your brain, not against it.
Do you have personal experience with ADHD?
Yes! I was diagnosed with combined-type ADHD in August 2024 at age 48, but I have struggled with it (not knowing what it was) for my entire life… and things got a lot harder with perimenopause. I have walked this journey and know it well… so I have huge compassion for my clients as they navigate their path forward. I am also a mom to kids with ADHD!
What are your credentials as an ADHD Life Coach?
By Fall 2025, I’ll have earned my ICF Associate Certified Coach (ACC) credential as a certified ADHD Life Coach, through the International ADHD Coach Center (iACT) after a rigorous year-long program of study. I’v working toward my ICF PCC credential!
